Tips for looking fresh and fabulous this festive season at any age

  • Written by The Women's Magazine

With the festive season in full swing, looking fresh and fabulous for all the work and social functions, might feel like an uphill battle.

For on-the-go women over 40, the key to having a military-style make up regime is key, to not only keeping up with the festive season, but to come out the other end, feeling and looking vivacious and effervescent.

Rageism Beauty, the Australian cosmetics range which has been uniquely designed and formulated for women over 40, unpacks its must do three-tip make up strategy in conquering the festive season and maintaining your finest form.

Kathrine Baulderstone, co-founder, Rageism Beauty, says that while it’s a time to celebrate, your make up routine needs to be simple, swift and smart, so you can get on with the festivities.

“Using a hydrating and illuminating primer underneath your foundation is king, to ensure it lasts from day to night.  A primer, as its name suggests, is there to create the ideal and smooth canvas so you can  build with your other products.  That way, you can continue to touch up, without disturbing your base.”

“Wearing a fun and festive lipstick is also a great way to elevate your look.  I recommend using a creamy lip liner that matches your lipstick, making sure it is not too much darker or lighter than your lipstick.

“And don’t forget to always carry a setting or hydrating spray in your bag to refresh and hydrate your makeup if you get hot (from all the dancing!)  The hydrating spray will not only cool you down but it helps to keep your make up.”

According to Kathrine, the festive season is a perfect opportunity to ramp up the boldness in your look, but to keep in mind the importance in restraining from going in heavy handed.

“If you are going out and want some extra drama with your makeup, wear either a bold eye or bright lip, not both. Don’t be afraid to have fun with some your eyeshadow but avoid heavy black eyeliner, try a softer slate or chocolate, or use your eye shadow with a small brush to create a soft smoky eyeliner. If you have hooded eyes, use a white eyeliner on the inner waterline before applying the eyeliner/shadow underneath and curl your lashes before at least two layers of mascara,” Kathrine said.

“If you are going for a scarlet or bold lip, apply your lipliner first, but don’t overline the lips too much or you risk the colour seeping into the lines around the mouth. Colour the whole lip in with the liner before applying your lipstick, apply your lippy and then reline just the cupids bow and bottom lip. This will help the lipstick stay on.

“And to go from day to night, and keep your makeup fresh, carry your foundation for touch ups, bronzer that you can use to both create warmth on your face and as a gorgeous eyeshadow, mascara (because we all love full lashes), lipstick, which you can use as a blusher if you need one  and either a powder compact for on-the-go touch ups or setting spray for setting and hydrating.”
